Graduate students can join our group by applying to Kyoto University's Graduate School of Advanced Integrated Studies in Human Survivability (GSAIS). Admission information for GSAIS can be found here. Students who have masters degrees can pursue PhD degrees at GSAIS through the third-year transfer programme.
GSAIS offers a unique, interdisciplinary graduate programme that will appeal to students who are interested in global issues such as human health and sustainability. If you are interested in joining our group, please contact me with a brief explanation of the type of research you would like to do in these areas. Please include a copy of your CV as well.
To join our group, you will need to be co-supervised by a GSAIS faculty member. When contacting me, please identify one or more GSAIS faculty members whom you would like to act as your co-supervisor.
Given the global focus of GSAIS, I would be particularly interested in projects that integrate computational chemistry into economics or econophysics research. A recent paper which took a tentative step in this direction can be found here (co-authored with GSAIS graduate Dr. Keiji Sakakibara).

Important
Students should have the equivalent of a first-class honors degree (at least an A- average across all undergraduate courses) in a relevant major from a reputable university. Students preferably would have taken a few mathematics and/or physics classes during their degrees as well.
Students should be fluent in either English or Japanese.
At present, admission into GSAIS is the only means by which a student can join our group. With very few exceptions, I won't respond to inquiries from students who wish to enter other graduate departments.
