Daniel Packwood is an associate professor and principal investigator at the Institute for Integrated Cell-Material Sciences (iCeMS) at Kyoto University. With a background in theoretical chemistry and mathematical science, he studies novel functional materials for energy and biomedical applications using computational methods. He is particularly interested in bio-active single molecules, functional molecular assemblies, porous molecular materials, and organic semiconductors.
Daniel Packwood received the 5th Hiroshi Fujiwara Encouragement Prize for Mathematical Sciences in 2016 and was a JST PRESTO researcher in the Collaborative Mathematics Area between 2014 and 2018. He is currently a JST FOREST researcher.
He is co-director of the Center for Integrated Data-Material Sciences, a Kyoto University On-Site Laboratory hosted by the MacDiarmid Institute for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology in New Zealand.
